According to\u00a0Mundo Deportivo<\/em><\/a>, Nico Gonzalez has been informed by Barcelona of his limited role in the team next season. It appears coach Xavi Hernandez has told him he will not get regular minutes in the team, and that a move away from Camp Nou could be the best option for the player.<\/p>\n

The report points out that Xavi does not see Nico as a replacement for Sergio Busquets, but rather an interior midfielder. That is why the club have opted to bring in Oriol Romeu, who could soon\u00a0seal his return to his boyhood club<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With Xavi viewing him as an interior, accommodating Nico into the current setup could be difficult. Barcelona, after all, have roped in Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City, while the club already boast the services of Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, and Gavi.<\/p>\n

This could ultimately lead to Nico\u2019s exit from Camp Nou. As per MD, Barcelona are looking for offers for the young midfielder. They are ready to either loan him out or sell him this summer, with an option to repurchase the talent in the future.<\/p>\n

Barcelona, after all, do rate the player highly and would want to have the option to bring him back, if he does succeed elsewhere.<\/p>\n

Nico is coming on the back of a loan spell at Valencia last season. The Spanish club were initially keen on extending the loan spell, but they have\u00a0reportedly<\/a>\u00a0backed out from the chase, citing economic shortcomings.<\/p>\n

Valencia\u2019s exit from the race might have made the road easier for FC Porto. The Portuguese giants appear to be in pole position to sign Nico on a loan deal, although there is interest in him from the Premier League as well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
