As Nico Gonzalez closes in on his transfer from Barcelona to FC Porto,\u00a0Mundo Deportivo\u2019s\u00a0<\/em>Roger Torello<\/a>\u00a0has shed light on the economics involved in the operation.<\/p>\n

Nico\u2019s transfer to Porto has been in the works for some time now and\u00a0a general agreement was understood to be reached last week itself<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But the two clubs were\u00a0ironing out the final specifics of the operation<\/a>, which now appear to have been dealt with.<\/p>\n

Barcelona to pocket \u20ac11 million from sale<\/h2>\n

Nico, who spent the last season away on loan at Valencia, was always bound for an exit as there was no space in Xavi\u2019s squad for him.<\/p>\n

There was interest from Real Betis as well, but as soon as Porto came calling, a move to Portugal became the likeliest option due to their presence in the UEFA Champions League.<\/p>\n

And, as per the report, Barcelona will be receiving a transfer fee of \u20ac11 million for the sale of Nico to Porto, with the move set to be completed tomorrow.<\/p>\n

The 21-year-old\u00a0La Masia<\/em>\u00a0graduate will be signing a four-year contract until the summer of 2027 with the Portuguese giants after agreeing to a pay cut proposed by his soon-to-be new club.<\/p>\n

Given that he is a homegrown player, a large part of his transfer fee can be chalked down as net profit, which will help Barcelona in their bid to achieve Fair Play.<\/p>\n

A buyback clause of \u20ac15 million included<\/h2>\n

One of the key conditions for Barcelona to sanction the transfer was that they wished to retain some control over Nico\u2019s future by inserting a repurchase clause.<\/p>\n

While Porto were initially against such a move, they have now relented and agreed to a buyback clause worth \u20ac15 million, which Barcelona can trigger to re-sign their academy graduate.<\/p>\n

Barcelona\u2019s sporting directors believe in the young midfielder\u2019s qualities and potential and were insistent on the repurchase option.<\/p>\n

And should they feel that Nico is fully prepared to return and become an important part of the team in the future, the Catalans will consider activating that clause.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
