Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez made it abundantly clear in his post-match press conference earlier today that the club need to sign a new right-back, as he\u00a0said<\/a>:\u00a0\u201cWe need a pure right-back.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Joao Cancelo of Manchester City continues to be the manager\u2019s preferred option, but Barcelona are also making a move for Ivan Fresneda of Real Valladolid.<\/p>\n

The 18-year-old is seen as a younger and more cost-effective option by the club and they have already made some progress in their pursuit of the Spaniard.<\/p>\n

But, the La Liga champions might now have to face a fresh hurdle to sign Fresneda, in the form of arch-rivals Real Madrid.<\/p>\n

Real Madrid reignite pursuit of Fresneda<\/h2>\n

Indeed, as per\u00a0SPORT<\/a>, Real Madrid have rekindled their interest in signing Fresneda as there are concerns over Dani Carvajal\u2019s performances heading into the new season.<\/p>\n

Los Blancos<\/em>\u00a0had been linked with a move for the 18-year-old Valladolid starlet earlier this summer, but those rumours had gone quiet as it appeared that the club were happy with their current right-back options.<\/p>\n

But, now, it is said that Carvajal\u2019s performances during the pre-season have left Real Madrid considering reinforcing the position, with Fresneda, a former trainee of their academy, back on the club\u2019s agenda.<\/p>\n

Barcelona have already made an offer for Fresneda<\/h2>\n

As things stand, Barcelona might have an edge over Real Madrid in the race for Fresneda as\u00a0they have already lodged an offer for his services<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Blaugrana<\/em>\u00a0are understood to have tabled a proposal worth \u20ac8 million plus \u20ac10 million in variables, while also being open to offering Estanis Pedrola as part of the deal.<\/p>\n

But with Real Madrid now entering the picture, the negotiations could be affected.<\/p>\n

Los Blancos<\/em>\u00a0already beat Barcelona to the signing of Arda Guler this summer and might look for a repeat, or at least hope to drive up the price for their rivals.<\/p>\n

Fresneda, who has a \u20ac20 million release clause in his contract, has\u00a0rejected other teams to wait for Barcelona<\/a>. But whether he would turn down his boyhood club remains to be seen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
