Having already landed Manchester City’s captain, Ilkay Gundogan, who arrived on a free transfer, Barcelona proceeds to eye big names currently plying their trade with the Cityzens.
Barcelona are eager to bolster their squad to the maximum degree ahead of next season, as success in the Champions League remains a focal objective.
In order to help that dream become a reality, there are two players the Catalans place great emphasis on.
Barcelona sends an official bid for Manchester City duo
According to Catalan news outlet SPORT, Barça has presented an official proposal to Manchester City for the two Portuguese stalwarts, Bernardo Silva and Joao Cancelo.
The deal is reported to be a one-year loan with a mandatory purchase option of €70 million for both players.
In the case of Cancelo, the player is seen as an excellent acquisition for the right-back spot, who can help alleviate Dembele’s absence.
Barcelona have already agreed personal terms with the full-back, and negotiations with Manchester City are the final hurdle remaining to close his signing.
As for Bernardo Silva, the recently crowned Treble winner is considered the final piece of the puzzle in Barcelona’s midfield, owing to his innate skill set in the center of the park.
However, as opposed to Cancelo, he appears to be a distant reality considering his untouchable status in the Sky Blues’ squad.
PSG had previously attempted relentlessly to acquire Bernardo’s services, yet City continuously refuted any offers for their midfield maestro.
“They are so important to us. We want them to stay here and will do everything,” Pep Guardiola said about Silva and Kyle Walker.
Consequently, Barcelona face a considerable obstacle in their pursuit to bag Bernardo, with the current offer unlikely to convince City, unless the player himself makes a move.
