Barring the confirmation of an official announcement, everything is complete as far as Oriol Romeu’s return to FC Barcelona is concerned.
The 31-year-old midfielder is all set to return to his boyhood club, signing from Catalan rivals Girona imminently.
After prolonged negotiations with Girona, Barcelona finally made a breakthrough over the weekend and reached a total agreement to sign Romeu.
The Spanish midfielder is set to arrive in a deal worth €5 million plus add-ons. The operation will also include a player, with Pablo Torre leaving Barcelona for Girona on a season-long loan deal.
Romeu skipped training with Girona today in order to complete his medicals with Barcelona. And as per Alex Pintanel, the 31-year-old has successfully completed his medical tests.
In fact, following the procedure, Romeu even spoke a little with the media about his impending move to Barcelona and said: “Yes, I’m happy.”
Romeu went on to add that he has not had any exchange with Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez yet, though, as he said: “I haven’t spoken to Xavi yet.”
Romeu’s transfer is only a matter of time now and an official announcement could arrive in the coming hours.
Although, there is a chance that the club might push the confirmation of the transfer to tomorrow to avoid the news clashing with Ilkay Gundogan’s formal presentation as a Barcelona player, which is currently underway.
Either way, Romeu will soon be joining his boyhood club to address a gaping hole in the middle of the park and will be able to fly to the USA for the pre-season tour.
