In a positive boost for Barcelona, they have welcomed Gavi back into group training heading into their penultimate pre-season friendly in the USA against Real Madrid, reports Mundo Deportivo.
Barça will take on their arch-rivals in a pre-season El Clasico later tonight at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas.
The Catalans head into the game on the back of a 3-5 defeat to Arsenal earlier this week and will be aiming to produce a strong reaction against Carlo Ancelotti’s men.
And, it appears that Barça will have key man Gavi back and available for the game after the youngster missed the match against Arsenal due to back discomfort.
Gavi could be available for El Clasico
Xavi had confirmed that Gavi’s absence against Arsenal was due to a back problem, as a result of which he did not participate in Thursday’s training sessions either.
But on the eve of the Clasico against Real Madrid, Gavi was back training with the rest of the group and did not show any signs of problems, which bodes very well for the La Liga champions.
Gavi has had a difficult start to the pre-season as he missed a few training sessions before the US trip due to gastroenteritis before encountering a back problem while on the tour.
Having now seemingly recovered from the issue, the 18-year-old midfield prodigy will be hoping to get some minutes under his belt in the coming pre-season matches, starting with the game tonight against Los Blancos.
However, the final decision remains with manager Xavi Hernandez and whether he wishes to rush Gavi back straight into the starting XI or ease him back into action.
What is certain is that new signing Inigo Martinez will not feature tonight against Real Madrid as he continues to train by himself, still recovering from his injury from last season.
